According to Mundo Deportivo, Ferland Mendy’s position at Real Madrid is growing increasingly fragile, despite the club not officially listing him for transfer.

With multiple factors now working against him, both on the pitch and behind the scenes, his future at the Santiago Bernabéu is far from secure.

Mendy, once the undisputed starter at left-back, now finds himself in one of the most competitive areas of Real Madrid’s squad.

The summer signing of Alvaro Carreras, the solid performances of Fran Garcia during the Club World Cup, and the new tactical outlook under Xabi Alonso have all reshuffled the deck.

Tactical changes at Real Madrid

While Alonso has yet to confirm whether he will deploy a traditional 4-3-3 or experiment with a 3-5-2 formation, it is evident that Carreras was brought in with the intention of being more than just a squad player.

His technical skills and modern full-back profile are expected to suit Alonso’s strategic plans. This leaves Mendy, who has been injured for a long time, starting from behind in the battle for minutes.

Garcia, meanwhile, has done enough to convince the coaching staff that he belongs in the rotation.

That places Mendy third in line at left-back, a difficult place to be for a player once considered a cornerstone of Madrid’s defence.

Open for offers despite no official tag

Real Madrid are not actively pushing Mendy out the door, but the message is clear that they are willing to listen to offers. With his contract running until 2028, the French international represents a financially attractive sale if the right proposal comes in.

Given his age, experience, and market value, Madrid see this summer as a window where they could cash in without losing too much depth.

Mendy is aware that the landscape has shifted. To reclaim his former status at the club, he will not only have to perform at a high level but also do so under very different circumstances and with far more pressure.

His road back into the starting XI won’t be easy and may not even happen at Real Madrid at all.
