Real Madrid President Florentino Perez promises shirts for every member

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has promised that every member will be given a shirt every season if he is re-elected again, just a year after running unopposed. Perez, 79, called elections two weeks ago, and this Sunday will go to the polls against Enrique Riquelme, the first contested elections in 20 years.

The main issue that the election has centred around is the ownership model, with Riquelme promising to protect the current model, with members owning 100% of the club. Perez has proposed to sell 5% of the club to an investor, and turn members into shareholders in the process, albeit without dividends. If he is victorious, Perez would call a General Assembly to put the matter to a referendum.

This week, Perez has also made a fresh promise to the members. As highlighted by Diario AS, Perez’s campaign platform ‘Florentino 2026’ has promised to gift a limited edition shirt to every member every season, one that will not be on sale to other fans.

The authentic Real Madrid shirt currently retails at €150 at the club shop online, while a replica retails for €100. Los Blancos currently possess around 70,000 members, meaning that the retail price of this move would be around €7m to €10.5m. Naturally, Real Madrid can manufacture the shirts significantly cheaper, but must incur the costs of personalisation and postage too.

Perez’s other promises

Perez has also promised that there will be more signings if he is re-elected, and it looks as if Ibrahima Konate could be the first of them. Nico Paz, whom Real Madrid have a €9m buyback option on from Como, could follow, and Jose Mourinho is also expected to be appointed as the new manager.
