Enrique Riquelme is promising the moon and stars to the club members as a bid to make his case for the presidential election strong.

With history, titles, and club legends backing him, Florentino Perez is the strong favourite to walk away with another term. Riquelme, thus, has had to go down the lucrative promises road to hand himself a chance.

Earlier this week, he revealed Manchester City’s Rodri to be a marquee signing if he is voted to power, and also announced that he would name his next mega signing on Wednesday.

The name is out

Yesterday, in an official press conference and media interaction via COPE, Riquelme announced and unveiled Erling Haaland as his second marquee signing if voted to power at the club.

The announcement came as a surprise considering how the player has a long-term contract with Manchester City and will cost a bomb in the current market.

Riquelme, however, was absolutely convinced that the signing could and would go through, and even assured supporters with a massive claim.

“I will make sure both Rodri and Haaland play for Real Madrid if I win.”

“If I break my promise, I will pay 100% of the membership fees to all 100,000 Real Madrid socios.”

As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, however, Erling Haaland’s father, Alfie Haaland, and agent Rafaela Pimienta clarified the truth around Real Madrid’s agreement reports.

“All very entertaining but NOT true. We wish all the best for both candidates in the Real Madrid elections,” they said, confirming that there is no agreement with Real Madrid in any capacity.

Needless to say, this development comes as a huge blow to Riquelme’s campaign just hours after he announced his marquee signing and paints a curious picture about his promises.

After all, if he indeed had the agreements he claims to have, there would not be such strong objections instantly after announcing them.
