Kylian Mbappé struck twice as Real Madrid thrashed Monaco 6-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with Thilo Kehrer enduring a bruising evening in a back line that never settled.
Mbappé opened the scoring with a crisp finish, then doubled the lead on 26 minutes from a Vinicius pass. According to L'Équipe, Valverde and Camavinga drove the flanks, the latter combining neatly before that second.
After the break, Mastantuono made it 3-0 on 51 minutes following lively work on the right. Two minutes later Kehrer diverted a Vinicius cross into his own net for 4-0, after Ceballos had released the Brazilian.
Vinicius then added the fifth, before Teze pulled one back on 72 minutes. Bellingham rounded Köhn to complete the scoring on 80 minutes.
Courtois was central, beating away efforts from Akliouche and Balogun before the break, then twice denying Golovine after the restart. Teze had earlier rattled the frame with a fierce attempt on 31 minutes.
Mastantuono tormented Monaco and earned an ovation when withdrawn on 71 minutes. Mbappé also started the move for the third with a pass to Vinicius, and even sprinted back 80 metres to recover the ball on 66 minutes.
On his European debut as coach, Arbeloa equalled Real’s biggest winning margin of the season. His calls to start Mastantuono and Güler, plus Camavinga at left back, were rewarded.
