In a major development, L’Equipe reports that Real Madrid have set their sights on FC Barcelona forward Ferran Torres.

The attacker is dominating the headlines in Spain and across the globe after scoring the match-winning goal for La Roja in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina.

Ferran’s contract with Barcelona expires in 2027, meaning he has less than 12 months left on his deal.

As already reported, PSG are pushing hard to sign the Spanish international, with Luis Enrique keen on a reunion with the attacker after having worked with him in the national team setup before.

Real Madrid keeping an eye

Now, it has emerged that Barcelona’s bitter rivals, Real Madrid, are also keeping a close eye on Ferran’s situation and could consider making a move for the forward.

Real Madrid have already made four major signings this summer, but new manager Jose Mourinho remains on the lookout for further reinforcements, especially in midfield and defence.

While a new forward might not be a priority at the moment, things could change suddenly as Los Blancos themselves are dealing with a delicate contract situation involving Vinicius Jr.

With the club being open to his departure if a new deal is not agreed, Ferran could potentially be viewed as a reinforcement to beef up the attack.

Barcelona want to keep Ferran

As far as Barcelona are concerned, the Blaugrana wish to keep hold of Ferran, recognising his value and importance to the team.

The La Liga champions are set for crunch talks with the forward and his camp in the coming week in order to try and understand his intentions regarding his contract situation and future.

The idea has been for the club to delay his renewal until September due to Financial Fair Play limitations, but with the interest in him growing day by day, especially after his World Cup final heroics, Barça could be forced into a corner.

What now remains to be seen is how Barcelona opt to deal with the issue. Ferran’s stock has risen rapidly after the World Cup triumph, putting him in a strong negotiating position as far as a renewal is concerned.

At the same time, the Catalans could also get a higher fee for him in the market if renewal talks do not progress as intended. But, it would leave the team without a recognised striker and needing them to sign two players for the position.
