Thibaut Courtois could be set for a new deal at Real Madrid, with reports from COPE suggesting the Belgian goalkeeper might extend his current contract by another two years.

Courtois is already tied to the club until 2026, but talks are ongoing to keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2028.

Despite being 33, Courtois remains one of the top goalkeepers in world football, and Real Madrid seem keen on keeping him as their number one for the foreseeable future.

Normally, Real Madrid avoid offering long-term contracts to players over 30. The club prefers to give them one-year deals that are extended annually based on performance.

However, Courtois’ consistent displays and experience appear to have convinced the club to make an exception. The Belgian has been a key figure in the team’s recent success, and his leadership on the field remains unmatched.

While Courtois’ future looks secure, the same cannot be said for Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has struggled for regular game time due to Courtois’ dominance.

With Lunin eager to play more often, he is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer in search of new opportunities.

His possible exit has pushed the club to start looking for a new backup goalkeeper. One of the names on their radar is Leo Roman from Mallorca.

Although still young and relatively untested at the highest level, Roman is being watched closely by the club. However, any new signing will have to accept a backup role, as Courtois remains the first-choice keeper without question.

In short, Real Madrid are planning for the future with Courtois, while also preparing for changes in their goalkeeping department. Keeping a world-class player like Courtois is seen as a smart move, especially with uncertainty around Lunin’s future.
