Real Madrid shift focus away from experienced Premier League midfielder
Real Madrid are planning to strengthen their midfield next summer but are not expected to move for Manchester City star.
Real Madrid preparing to sign new midfielder in the summer transfer window as the club continues to rebuild its squad.
In recent months, the Spanish giants have been linked with several midfield players including Rodri Hernandez, a key figure at Man City and the Spanish national team.
Rodri’s situation at City has raised interest across Europe. His contract runs until summer 2027 and reports suggest talks over extension have not yet reached agreement.
This has led to speculation that the midfielder could be available for around €50 million next summer.
Despite the rumors, Spanish outlet AS reports that Real Madrid are not planning to pursue the transfer. While the club respects Rodri’s quality and experience, there are concerns about his physical condition.
The midfielder suffered anterior cruciate ligament injury in September 2024 and there are doubts about whether he has fully regained his previous level.
Club officials are also considering his age as Rodri is now 29 year old.
Because of this, Madrid are focusing more on younger players who could become long-term leaders in the midfield.
According to the same report, Real Madrid are looking at several other midfield options for the next transfer window. Names such as Vitinha, Adam Wharton and Kees Smit are among the players being monitored.
