Real Madrid star explains why he is not a consistent starter | OneFootball

Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga has this week provided an insight into why he feels he is yet to solidify his status as a guaranteed starter in Los Blancos’ engine room.

Midfielder Camavinga has for his part played something of a bit-part role for Real Madrid over the early weeks of the new term. Across the club’s eight fixtures between La Liga and the Champions League, the Frenchman has been afforded just two starts.

This follows a season in 2025/26 giving rise to just 16 league starts.

Whilst some of Camavinga’s game-time struggles can be attributed to fitness problems, the one-time Stade Rennais standout has also long struggled for consistency.

Time and time again over recent years, ‘Cama’ has followed up on a starring display with one leaving much to be desired, littered with lapses in concentration and avoidable mistakes.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media whilst on international duty this week, it therefore came as little surprise when the 23-year-old himself highlighted a need for more repeated high-level performances to lock down a starting berth in Real Madrid’s midfield:

“Consistency, I’d say. I’ve had good performances before, but it’s consistency that matters. You need to stay focused on the pitch and make fewer mistakes.”
