A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Wednesday been afforded the honour of donning the club’s captain’s armband for the very first time.

The player in question? Vinícius Jr.

Real Madrid are of course primed to return to action in short order, when Carlo Ancelotti’s troops take to the pitch at Anoeta, for a Copa del Rey semi-final first-leg meeting with Real Sociedad.

Despite the importance of the clash, a number of leading members of Los Blancos’ squad have been given the night off, including all of Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, and Kylian Mbappé.

With Luka Modrić on the bench in San Sebastian, an opening therefore opened up for a new Real captain for the evening.

And as alluded to above, Carlo Ancelotti and his coaching staff, in the end, made the call to hand the armband to star winger Vinícius Jr.

The Brazilian will, in turn, lead the Spanish champions into an official fixture for the very first time.
