After a tense training session at Valdebebas on Thursday, Valverde and Tchouaméni were at the heart of a physical exchange in the dressing room.

This culminated in the former hitting his head, requiring a hospital visit and a round of stitches.

Valverde was also put through a round of medical tests and scans, to ascertain the full extent of the damage suffered.

And as alluded to above, the results of as much have since been revealed.

As per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms, the club’s engine room leader has picked up a traumatic brain injury, ruling him out of this weekend’s El Clásico:

‘After the tests carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a cranioencephalic trauma.

‘Valverde is at home in good condition and will need to rest for 10 to 14 days, as indicated by medical protocols for this diagnosis.’
