Real Madrid have decided to go after the signing of a new centre-back ahead of next season. That is the conclusion reached by those with authority during meetings held in Valdebebas after much debate, reports MARCA.
The idea is for the new signing to be available for the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer – a competition that has become a top priority for the Spanish capital club.
Reinforcing the defence is a clear objective for the upcoming transfer window, though the club remains firm in its stance not to spend recklessly.
In fact, the report further states that the player who is currently drawing the most attention within Real Madrid is Dean Huijsen of AFC Bournemouth.
The Spanish international is one of those talents under close and daily monitoring by the Merengues’ sporting department to assess his development and potential contribution to the squad.
Huijsen has passed every test, with scouting reports consistently describing him as a centre-back of long-term potential and authority. As such, Real Madrid have decided to step up their pursuit of the 20-year-old wonderkid.

The Real Madrid hierarchy consider Huijsen a highly attractive prospect. His character, bravery, physical presence, and composure in playing the ball out from the back are seen as key assets.
Los Blancos had already tried to sign him years ago, and his recent displays in such a demanding league as the Premier League have only increased their interest.
However, Huijsen’s performances for Andoni Iraola’s side have caught the eye not only of Real Madrid but also of several English clubs.
Multiple Premier League teams, with Chelsea at the forefront, appear willing to pay the €58 million release clause stipulated in his contract.
This could pose a challenge for Real Madrid as competing in terms of wages with clubs like Chelsea will not be feasible, as the club is committed to maintaining a responsible wage structure, just as it did last summer in the case of Leny Yoro.
Other centre-backs on Real Madrid’s radar include Ibrahima Konate and William Saliba. However, both French internationals fall into the category of players the club is monitoring while waiting for their contracts to near expiration in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
