Real Madrid were handed a major concern last week as key forward Kylian Mbappe was taken off with an ankle injury while playing for France against Azerbaijan.

The 26-year-old superstar had sprained his ankle in Los Blancos’ win over Villarreal right before the international break, but still joined the France camp.

Having seemingly recovered enough, Mbappe started in the WC qualifier against Azerbaijan and even scored, before being taken off in the 83rd minute due to the relapse of the ankle problem.

As a result, Mbappe was released from the France camp and returned to Madrid over the weekend, with tests conducted by the club revealing no serious injury and a minimal time out.

Mbappe will be ready to face Getafe

Now, according to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Mbappe is expected to be fit and available to face Getafe in La Liga this weekend.

Real Madrid take on Jose Bordalas’ side away at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday, 19 October, hoping to stay at the top of the La Liga standings.

And, Mbappe is expected to play against the Azulones despite his early return from the national team camp due to the ankle issue.

This will come as a major relief for the Merengues, considering that the 26-year-old superstar has been the team’s best player this season.

Indeed, Mbappe has already plundered 14 goals in ten games for Real Madrid this term while also registering two assists. He also has netted three times for France in three games.

Having him fit and firing, heading into crucial games against the likes of Juventus and Barcelona later this month, will be crucial for Xabi Alonso & co.
