It has been a fabulous international break for Kylian Mbappe and France.

While Les Bleus won both of their games, Mbappe took giant strides towards establishing himself as a national team legend and was thus the biggest winner of the break.

In France’s game against Ukraine, Mbappe netted a late 82nd-minute goal to go level with Thierry Henry as France’s second-highest goalscorer for the national team with 51 goals.

Last night, he again scored in the team’s win over Iceland and thus steered clear of the Barcelona legend to go into sole second place.

Only Olivier Giroud has now scored more goals than him for France and his tally sits on 57 goals.

Mbappe speaks to the media

Speaking to the media, the French superstar shared his thoughts on the achievement and also made it clear that he is anything but satisfied.

“Second-highest goal scorer in history? There’s still work to do, no rest. There’s another player we need to surpass,” he said (h/t RM4Arab), making it clear that he is gunning for the top spot.

Mbappe then spoke about his dream with the national team setup and how he balanced that with the pressure from the club level.

“My main concern is to make the French national team reach as high. Now back to Madrid.”

Mbappe will next feature for Real Madrid in the team’s game against Real Sociedad this weekend but it is likely that he will start on the bench given the hectic international duty and travel he has had.

After all, Xabi Alonso is planning elaborate rotations to keep players fresh and the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes who did not feature for their country will receive preference on the night.
