Real Madrid appear to be on the verge of sealing a third signing of the summer, albeit as all deals are to this point, subject to Florentino Perez being re-elected as President this Sunday. Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries will be the third reinforcement to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos intend to activate the €9m buyback option they have on Nico Paz at Como, and have also reportedly reached an agreement with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate to arrive as a free agent. The France international’s exit from Liverpool was announced in recent days, and Real Madrid have moved swiftly to bring in one of the two central defenders that Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to arrive.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Cadena Cope, Real Madrid have reached an agreement on personal terms with Dutch international Dumfries. El Chiringuito add that the contract offer for Dumfries is for three seasons and the deal has already been approved by Mourinho. Los Blancos have now informed Inter that they will activate the €20m release clause to complete the deal.

Contrast to Trent Alexander-Arnold

Dumfries represents a radical departure from Trent Alexander-Arnold in terms of what he offers from the England international. While the 29-year-old is not synonymous with defensive solidity, often operating at his best in a back five as a wing-back, he does provide plenty of thrust going forward. Dumfries is not afraid to hit the by-line and get into the box when going forward, and for a manager like Mourinho who is often keen to counter-attack, he could be a lethal weapon. On the other hand, Alexander-Arnold offers more ability on the ball, and a crossing ability that is the envy of the rest of world football.
