Real Madrid have been linked with Sunderland defender Trai Hume, with Defensa Central claiming he is among low-cost right-back options being considered this summer.
The report says Madrid are assessing cover and competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold and are exploring the market amid an expected Dani Carvajal departure. A price of around €22m, roughly £19m, is suggested.
Hume is mentioned alongside Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong, Feyenoord’s Givairo Read, Brighton’s Matt Wieffer and Monaco’s Vanderson. The focus is said to be on a rotation option rather than heavy spending.
It feels unlikely at this stage, yet it underlines how Hume’s reputation has grown after another strong Sunderland season. The Northern Ireland international’s versatility, intensity and reliability have made him a key figure under Régis Le Bris.
Hume came through Ballymena United and Linfield, making his senior Linfield debut in April 2019. A loan at hometown club Ballymena brought 37 appearances and six goals before he returned to become first-choice right-back.
Sunderland signed him in January 2022 on a four-and-a-half-year deal. He made his debut in a 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham Town a month later and became a regular in 2022-23.
He signed fresh terms in 2023, then a long-term deal after promotion to the Premier League, tying him to 2030. He netted his first Premier League goal in a 4-3 defeat to Aston Villa earlier this season.
