Bernardo Silva, who left Manchester City on a free this month, is close to joining Real Madrid, who are in the final stages of a deal.
Barcelona made an attempt to sign the 31-year-old but were unsuccessful. According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid then moved forward at José Mourinho’s request.
Now a free agent, the Portugal midfielder can sign for any club without a transfer fee.
In April, Flamengo’s sporting director José Boto described Silva as an interesting option for fans who wanted him, although any move was viewed as very difficult, Paparazzo Rubro-Negro reported at the time.
Silva came through at Benfica before moving to Monaco under Leonardo Jardim, then joined Manchester City. He went on to win the club’s major honours under Pep Guardiola.
