It has been a busy summer so far for Real Madrid, who have added four new faces to Jose Mourinho’s squad ahead of the 2026-27 season starting next month. Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva have all officially signed and will jet in soon, but new head coach Jose Mourinho is still not satisfied.
Mourinho reportedly wants at least two more additions to his squad: another centre-back and a midfielder. There is a good chance that the former is approved, with Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck among the club’s targets, but it is looking very unlikely that anyone else will be heading to the Bernabeu.
Earlier this month, Real Madrid publicly confirmed they had no interest in Enzo Fernandez, who was Mourinho’s preferred target, and now that Aurelien Tchouameni has agreed a new five-year contract, it is considered almost impossible for a midfielder to be signed this summer, as per MD.
In order for Mourinho to get his wish of a new midfielder, Real Madrid have made it clear that one of their current players must be sold. Tchouameni had been a candidate amid interest from Manchester United, but now that’s off the table, the only realistic option is Eduardo Camavinga – but even then, the French midfielder has told club bosses that he will not entertain any offers that come his way, even if the club themselves were to accept any.
Frustratingly for Mourinho, he does not count on Camavinga as one of his options for the 2026-27 season, so it could be a case that he uses him because he has to. He would have much preferred for a new face to add a fresh dimension to his list of options, but instead, it looks like he will have to settle with what’s already at the club.
