Real Madrid resumed training this week after the mid-season break, as they get set to kick 2026 off with a La Liga fixture against Real Betis on Sunday.

As things stand, Real Madrid are set to be without some key players for the game against Manuel Pellegrini’s team, with Eder Militao, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Dani Carvajal ruled out, while Kylian Mbappe has also joined the list of absentees.

With the Spanish Super Cup coming immediately after the league game, Real Madrid are hoping to recover at least one or two of their injured players for the trip to Saudi Arabia.

Dani Carvajal wants to return

In that regard, Melchor Ruiz of COPE reports that while Mbappe remains a doubt for the Spanish Super Cup, Carvajal is doing everything he can to make his return for the tournament.

The 33-year-old club captain is set to resume training with the group, at least partially, tomorrow with an eye on the competition in the Middle East.

Carvajal has been out of action since late October, when he had to undergo arthroscopic surgery due to an issue in his knee.

A recovery period of around eight to ten weeks had been suggested for the Spanish international after his surgery – a timeline that will be met this week.

Carvajal, whose future beyond the season is far from certain, has been working hard through the holidays to ensure that he can return in time for the trip to Saudi Arabia.

The expectation now is that he trains partially with the group tomorrow and makes steady progress in the days to come, so that he can receive the green light from the medical department for the Super Cup.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold ruled out of the competition and no return date set for the summer arrival, Carvajal’s comeback will be critical for Xabi Alonso & co.
