Real Madrid will be busy during the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window, with both signings and exits expected. Someone that looks set to arrive is Rodri, although there could be a knock-on effect by the way of a significant sale.
Rodri would be a certain starter for Real Madrid during the 2026-27 season if he ended up signing, with the likelihood being that his regular partner would be club captain Federico Valverde. That would leave Aurelien Tchouameni out in the cold, and despite only recently agreeing a new contract, the France international could be heading out of the Bernabeu.
According to Ramon Alvarez de Mon, Tchouameni’s situation could change if Rodri signs. Real Madrid had not planned to sign the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner when they agreed a new five-year contract with the former, and the expectation is that someone will leave to offset the expected arrival.
Prior to agreeing a new Real Madrid contract, Manchester United were the club most likely to make a move for Tchouameni. The Premier League giants see him as the perfect replacement for Casemiro, who left earlier in the summer to join Inter Miami, and they were reportedly ready to spend big to ensure that a deal could be done.
It does make sense for Real Madrid to sell a defensive midfielder in the event that Rodri signs, given that they already have Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Thiago Pitarch and Bernardo Silva among the options that can operate in that position. And it work out that Tchouameni is the player to leave, given that Camavinga has absolutely no intention of leaving his summer, despite him having already been informed by Jose Mourinho that he is not part of his plans for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
