Gonzalo Garcia has made the most of the minutes he has seen in Kylian Mbappe’s absence in the FIFA Club World Cup and has ensured that the new manager Xabi Alonso takes notice of his abilities.

In just three games for Los Blancos so far, he has scored two goals and provided one assist, and in many ways, has been the find of the tournament for Alonso’s side.

With the player making the most of his opportunities, there was a constant doubt on whether or not the manager would continue to trust in the player after the return of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, and the answer now appears to be coming out.

Garcia will stay

As relayed by Mario Cortegana in a recent update, Garcia was expected to leave Real Madrid this summer citing a lack of opportunities. After all, he saw regular minutes to be a must to keep developing.

Now, however, his breakout Club World Cup campaign has changed his decision and he is expected to stay at the club this season. The club’s sources are ‘almost sure’ that he will continue under the new management.

Not many expected Garcia to flourish in the manner that he has in recent days, but he has shown great composure under pressure and in front of goal to make a strong case to see regular minutes.

In fact, it will not be surprising if the manager sees him as the first-choice replacement for Kylian Mbappe in the coming games and the season as a whole. The pressure, needless to say, now falls on Endrick who has a new competitor.

Despite doing well in recent games, Garcia is expected to start on the bench against Juventus in the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup as Mbappe is set to play for Los Blancos on the night. An appearance off the bench, however, cannot be ruled out.
