According to an update from SPORT, it has come to light that Real Madrid’s dream of signing a new midfield superstar is currently on hold, mainly because of how much they have already spent this summer.
The team from the Spanish capital has so far made four new signings, spending around €180 million, and despite these big moves, the club’s work in the transfer market is not done.
New manager Xabi Alonso is still looking for more additions to the squad, as he believes there are important gaps that need filling, especially in midfield and defence.
Although a centre-back is on the list, the main priority is to bring in a top-class midfield organiser.
Alonso has set his sights on a true midfield leader, someone who can control games just like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric did for so many years. However, landing a Galactico for this role is proving almost impossible.

The ideal targets, namely, Rodri, Vitinha, Enzo Fernandez, Nicolo Barella, and Mac Allister, are all locked into long-term projects at their current clubs. The only way to sign one of them would be to offer a huge fee that clubs cannot refuse.
The problem is that Real Madrid have already spent more than €180 million in this transfer window, and they are not ready to pay another €100 million or more for a single player.
The board knows that such spending would be too risky, even for a club of Madrid’s size.
There are cheaper alternatives on the table like Angelo Stiller, who could cost around €40 million, but even that option is not fully convincing for the club.
Madrid are still searching for the next Toni Kroos or Luka Modric, but they also know it is unlikely they will find someone of that level without paying a huge price.
