Real Sociedad took a 1-0 lead into the break in their first pre-season outing against Racing de Santander, Óskarsson finishing from Marchal’s pass. The Icelandic forward appears to have carried over his strong end to last season.

According to Diario Vasco, many had expected Matarazzo to lean on Sanse players, yet the New Jersey coach went with established figures such as Aramburu, Zubeldia, Barrene and Turrientes, alongside youngsters Lebarbier, Beitia and Marchal.

The opening period passed without alarms, with the hosts controlling proceedings at Zubieta against a Racing side returning to the top flight this year.

On the Racing bench sat Sergio Canales, a familiar face to Real Sociedad, who could get his first minutes this Saturday after his long-awaited return.

Further changes were also anticipated for La Real, with a bench full of B-team options almost certainly to be tested by Matarazzo in this first friendly of pre-season.
