Although it is not going to be a priority, FC Barcelona can also see some changes in the goalkeeper position in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Blaugranes signed Joan Garcia last summer, and with this move, have secured the goalkeeper position for the long-term. Meanwhile, they have Wojciech Szczesny as the backup, with the Pole’s contract expiring in 2027, with the club also having the option to terminate it at the end of this season.
One of the club’s plans for this position has been to sign another experienced goalie to be Garcia’s backup, and for this purpose, they have been linked with the Real Sociedad shot-stopper Alex Remiro, whose contract is also expiring in 2027.
Thus, Barcelona can either sign him this summer or wait till next year to sign him for free. However, this would not really be easy, as Mundo Deportivo reports that La Reale don’t want to lose their goalkeeper for free, and have offered him a renewal for two more years, with an optional third year as well.
For now, Alex Remiro is happy at Real Sociedad, with whom he recently won the Copa del Rey, and there is no urgency for either of the involved sides. Thus, it remains to be seen how this story develops, and whether he would join Barcelona, either this summer or next year.
