The Clarets' former assistant manager appeared to be returning to Turf Moor.
The 2026/27 Championship fixture list may have been revealed, but Burnley remain without a manager with two months until the season kicks off.
Scott Parker left Turf Moor by mutual consent almost two months ago, and while there were many twists and turns, it seemed that the Clarets' former assistant manager, Craig Bellamy, was set to take the reins.
However, Bellamy's return to the Lancashire club unexpectedly collapsed, with Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards being named as potential alternatives.
Many supporters will be wondering exactly why the Wales manager's move to Turf Moor fell through, and now the reason why has been revealed.

Several names have been linked with the Burnley hotseat, but the saga seemed to be reaching its conclusion with Bellamy's return to the Turf Moor dugout as manager.
The 46-year-old has been Wales' boss since 2024, overseeing 20 matches, and has done a decent job despite failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Bellamy is yet to manage a club side, and with the Clarets expected to challenge for the Championship title, a Turf Moor return would have been an enticing opportunity.
However, with his move seemingly over, talkSPORT's Alex Crook has reported that there are issues regarding backroom staff, although he does not pinpoint exactly what the problem is.
Crook adds that as of this morning, the FAW (Football Association of Wales) were fully expecting him to leave and planning for his successor, with at least two candidates already approached.

While the Clarets may have taken their time to get their next managerial appointment spot on, they are now in a race against time to hire Parker's successor.
Pre-season is on the horizon, and the last thing supporters and the players want is to head into the key part of summer in uncertainty.
As previously mentioned, the Clarets could turn to Cooper or Edwards, who are both without a club and have superb experience in the Championship.
The obvious concern over appointing Edwards would be whether he would view a move to Turf Moor as a long-term plan, given how he jumped ship from Middlesbrough to Wolves at the first opportunity.
As for Cooper, he has been out of the English game since a poor spell with Leicester City, although he could be forgiven for what happened at the King Power Stadium after their dismal second-tier campaign.
