Mamadou Sangaré has left Lens for Brentford, with both clubs announcing the move on Saturday. The 24-year-old Malian midfielder becomes Lens’ record sale and Brentford’s most expensive signing.
According to L'Équipe, the fee is around €48m, an unprecedented figure for both clubs.
Sangaré spent only one season at Lens after arriving last summer from Rapid Vienna. He joins the Premier League on a contract to 2031, with an option for a further year.
Lens, runners-up in France last season, surpass their previous €40m departures of Loïs Openda to Leipzig and Abdukodir Khusanov to Manchester City.
Named in the UNFP Team of the Season, Sangaré also moves into Ligue 1’s top three for one-season transfer profits.
