An early yellow card can be common in football, with players committing overzealous challenges in the opening stages of either half. 

Early red cards are less common and very few are brandished within seconds of kick-off.

However, this rare occurrence took place in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon as Hoffenheim's Tim Lemperle saw red after just 12 seconds.

Lemperle charged down his opponent and caught them with a high elbow, leading to an obvious straight red dismissal.
