The 26-year-old would have had two years left on his existing deal come the end of the season, but has now committed the prime years of his career to the club.
Having James commit his future to the club is a huge boost for the Blues, given he’s one of the most important players at Chelsea.
James is a product of Chelsea’s academy and has come all the way through the ranks to captain the side which is a brilliant story in itself, making 225 appearances to date.
There didn’t appear to be much doubt about James signing a new deal and committing his future to Chelsea, and Ornstein confirmed the news on Friday morning.
He took to X.com and said:
“EXCL: Reece James commits future to Chelsea by signing new 6yr contract.
“26yo’s previous deal 2028; fresh agreement runs until June 2032. Deal aligns England right-back with #CFC incentivised wage structure. W/ @SJohnsonSport @reallycerys@TheAthleticFC”
James is understood to be Chelsea’s highest paid player on £250,000 per week, and has put his injury issues firmly behind him by starting in 19 of his 26 league appearances this season.
With James signed up until 2032, Chelsea have decisions to make on more contracts in the summer, with three players set to have two years remaining on their deals in the summer.

Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah and Marc Cucurella are all out of contract in 2028, with decisions needing to be made on their futures.
Cucurella signed improved terms last year, but interestingly there wasn’t an extension, whilst there are big question marks over the future of Tosin and Chalobah, with the Blues needing to make some big decisions.
