Valencia CF vs Atlético de Madrid at Mestalla on matchday 34 will feature LALIGA’s new RefCam, a referee-mounted camera offering an unprecedented on-field view, according to Superdeporte.
The technology will make its first appearance in the Copa del Rey final between Atlético and Real Sociedad at La Cartuja. Appointed referee Javier Alberola will wear a headband unit with an integrated camera and microphone for the TV broadcast, produced by RTVE.
From 22 April it will be used in one LALIGA fixture per round. Scheduled games include FC Barcelona vs RC Celta on 22 April, matchday 33, Real Betis vs Real Madrid on 24 April, matchday 32, Valencia CF vs Atlético de Madrid on matchday 34, then FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid on matchday 35.
RefCam provides the referee’s live viewpoint, immersing viewers in the speed, pressure and proximity of each passage of play. The audio feed is designed to improve understanding of decisions and bring greater transparency.
LALIGA has selected MindFly’s system after extensive in-competition testing, highlighting image quality, stability and reliability under high movement. Connectivity is handled by stadium antennas to deliver a clear, continuous signal to the outside broadcast truck.
The camera also delivers strong colour reproduction and advanced stabilisation, helping integration into live broadcasts. Beyond television, the footage opens up digital opportunities, including innovative content and highlights from the referee’s perspective.
