A refereeing expert has ruled that Al-Hilal’s second penalty against Al-Faisaly was correctly awarded during Friday’s Roshn Saudi Pro League opener.

Goal.com reports that the decision sparked debate during the match. Al-Hilal’s first goal also came from the spot, with France forward Karim Benzema converting.

The second award arrived in the 27th minute when Crysencio Summerville went down under a defender’s challenge, and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Ruben Neves took responsibility and finished calmly.

Questions over whether there had been a foul followed. Refereeing specialist Saad Al-Kathiri reviewed the incident and backed the on-field call.

He said the striker had been clearly obstructed by an Al-Faisaly defender, so the penalty was correct, adding there was nothing to justify changing the decision.
