Régis Le Bris says Brian Brobbey could return against Brighton this weekend after rejoining full training last Friday, and he is similarly hopeful Dennis Cirkin will make the squad following his minor hamstring issue. Both have trained fully this week.
According to Sunderland Echo, the head coach confirmed Nordi Mukiele, Robin Roefs and Reinildo will miss this fixture, though he expects them to train next week. He said Reinildo is 100% to train, making it more about the Newcastle United game a week later. He remains hopeful on Roefs and Mukiele.
Trai Hume and Noah Sadiki are back after competition-specific suspensions served in the Port Vale defeat.
Bertrand Traoré faces at least six to eight weeks out following a recurrence of his knee problem. Le Bris said they will try to be conservative first, then decide if anything else is required depending on his reaction.
Granit Xhaka is now close to full fitness after two substitute outings in the league. Le Bris said they refused to rush him because he can change the team’s dynamic and standards, and he thinks his recovery is now done.
