Régis Le Bris praised Chemsdine Talbi after recalling him for Sunderland’s 1-1 draw at Wolves, the winger’s first start since March.

According to Sunderland Echo, the head coach applauded Talbi’s response to recent frustration and said the youngster is progressing in his first Premier League season.

Talbi scored the equaliser in March’s Tyne-Wear derby win, then lost his place after the ensuing break and was an unused substitute in the 5-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. He returned to the XI last Saturday, with Sunderland reduced to 10 men midway through the first half.

Le Bris called Talbi a very young wide player who needs experience and maturity to find consistency. He said selection depends on the game, praised the winger’s training levels when omitted, and felt he took his chance, including in wing-back roles.

Talbi said he must give everything whenever selected, adding that although he sometimes feels he deserves to play, he knows he must prove his qualities on the pitch.

Le Bris also brought Enzo Le Fée back into central areas and shifted Trai Hume to the right flank. He was pleased with Le Fée’s impact and hinted the set-up could be used more often before the season ends.

He stressed the need to rotate to give the squad oxygen and said Le Fée is probably best in the central corridor, where he has more freedom and links with Granit and Noah. After a heavy loss, he felt the change of dynamic was positive.
