Régis Le Bris says Dennis Cirkin could leave Sunderland as a free agent this summer, with no final decision yet on the defender’s future.

According to Sunderland Echo, the head coach said it is too early to be definitive and that the situation could evolve over the last five matches. He noted fierce competition at full-back, with three strong options, and admitted it is difficult for a fourth-choice player nearing the end of his contract unless both sides align.

Cirkin impressed on his Premier League introduction during AFCON, but Trai Hume’s late appearance at left back at Villa Park last week underlined the current pecking order.

He has made nine appearances this season, with only one brief substitute outing since the FA Cup win at Oxford in February.

Le Bris said no final call has been made on Bertrand Traoré either. The winger is targeting a partial return to training next week after a knee injury, and holds an appearance-related option tied to games, with a decision still to be taken.
