Régis Le Bris says Sunderland are pushing to strengthen but will keep their transfer work under the radar to stay efficient.

The Black Cats lost 4-2 to Liverpool in Nashville on Saturday, their second pre-season friendly. According to Sunderland Echo, Thomas Meunier is the only summer signing so far as the club target stability, with Le Bris last week outlining plans for three or four core additions and potentially six or seven in total.

He said the club are working hard behind the scenes and that remaining quiet matters, describing this as a different window to last season. Sunderland signed 14 players then, which he stressed will not be the case this year.

Le Bris also addressed Granit Xhaka's future for the first time this summer, saying the subject is closed. Chelsea had bid to reunite Xhaka with their new head coach Xabi Alonso and, though he was initially open to it, the midfielder has told Sunderland he will stay. Le Bris called him a good captain and a great leader.

During Switzerland's run to the World Cup quarter finals, Xhaka said Sunderland had felt like home from day one. He added that his family comes first, he had decided to remain where he is and he is ready to make history with the club.
