Sunderland are gearing up for a pivotal summer after a successful first season back in the Premier League, with Régis Le Bris confident they are well placed to act.

As reported by Sunderland Echo, Florent Ghisolfi arrived last summer, led a major recruitment drive and has since overhauled the department with a new scouting team. The scouts track targets for this window and beyond, meeting every two or three months, with their second or third such session held last week.

Le Bris, focused on the run-in, will soon add his views in recruitment meetings and thinks the plan can be executed. He says Ghisolfi has had around 10 months to build structure and that the link between squad work and scouting is stronger, while stressing the market remains unpredictable.

European qualification is still possible despite back-to-back defeats, which could require a deeper squad. Le Bris says it has not been a specific planning scenario, but if it happens they would adjust numbers and he is not worried after starting late last season and still seeing positive results.

He has also signalled a wish to keep the core together even if elite interest arises, while insisting the structure gives room to handle surprises. Ghisolfi has said they will try to improve the team this summer, but stability will be central and Premier League revenues mean there is no need to sell, though occasional sales may reflect player cycles and show a pathway for young talents.
