Sunderland are gearing up for a pivotal summer window, with Régis Le Bris buoyed by Florent Ghisolfi's recruitment overhaul.

According to Sunderland Echo, Ghisolfi arrived last summer, led a major drive to ready the club for the Premier League, then rebuilt the department by installing a scouting team tracking targets for this window and beyond.

Le Bris remains focused on the run-in but will soon add his input to recruitment meetings. He notes Ghisolfi came in late last summer, spent about 10 months building structure, and now processes are well connected across training and competition.

Scouts are monitoring various leagues and meet every two or three months to align targets by position, with Ghisolfi challenging or backing proposals. A further meeting took place last week. Le Bris says they should be ready, while stressing the market remains unpredictable.

European qualification is still possible, although back-to-back defeats have reduced the chances and any extra fixtures could demand a bigger squad. Le Bris says they have not planned specifically for that scenario but would adapt if required, pointing to last season's late start that still produced a positive outcome.

Ghisolfi has outlined a summer plan to try to improve the team, while prioritising stability. He wants Sunderland to be sustainable and says Premier League revenues mean there is no need to sell, though some players may move on as part of cycles and to show pathways for ambitious young recruits, without pressure to do so.
