As reported by Sunderland Echo, the FA rejected Sunderland's appeal against Dan Ballard's red card for violent conduct at Wolves, upholding a three-game suspension that rules him out of the rest of the Premier League campaign.

That decision leaves Le Bris weighing a straight swap or a reshuffle in his back four. With key figures working back from injury, there are further calls to make higher up the pitch and on the bench.

GK: Robin Roefs is the likely pick. He made some good saves at Wolves and will have to be at his best if Sunderland are to take anything.

RB: Nordi Mukiele could be moved infield, where he began the season strongly. The head coach has talked about his importance at right back to the side's balance going forward and defending, so he might try to keep the structure intact and select a straight swap at centre back instead.

CB: Luke O'Nien struggled on his last start in the middle on a day when Ollie Watkins shone, though Sunderland were poor defensively across the board and he was among those affected by a sickness bug. Given Le Bris's trust in him in recent months, this might be the moment to restore him.

CB: Omar Alderete impressed at Wolves and, particularly with Ballard unavailable, there is little doubt he starts.
