France’s U20s are the current champions of the prestigious Maurice Revello tournament, however, Foot Mercato understands that they won’t even compete in this summer’s edition, which begins at the end of May.

The FFF has justified the decision, citing budgetary restraints. The federation do not want to invest funds simply to send a B team. France’s U20 team will cease competing entirely after the U20 World Cup, which will take place in 2027.

FFF frustrated at teams’ refusal to release players

The side have not managed to arrange any matches at all during the most recent international break, with frustration growing regarding clubs’ refusal to release players for their matches. That was notably the case during the most recent U20 World Cup, with many players retained by clubs in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.

It is a recurring problem and one that is becoming increasingly frustrating for those working within the France U20 set-up.
