‘Relentless’ Ten Hag favourite has now given his fresh verdict on the Dutchman’s dismissal | OneFootball

Alejandro Garnacho is currently navigating the departure of the manager who gave him his breakthrough into senior football: Erik ten Hag.

While the youngster made his official debut in April 2022 under then-interim Ralf Rangnick, it wasn’t until the following season – Ten Hag’s first at Old Trafford – that he really got to grips with playing regular first-team football.

Garnacho was granted his maiden outing in injury time of a 1-1 draw with Chelsea towards the back end of the 2021/2022 term, replacing fellow Carrington graduate Anthony Elanga. He then added another 11-minute cameo under his belt on the final day of the campaign in a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

In 22/23, the Argentine established himself as a frequent figure on the pitch, making 34 appearances under Ten Hag across the season – 11 as a starter. By 23/24, he had almost cemented his place in the XI by featuring in 41 games from the off.

Now vying to retain his spot amidst fierce competition from Amad Diallo, Garnacho has enjoyed a prolific start to 24/25 amidst United’s turbulent form. He has notched six goals and four assists in 16 matches thus far and, in the Carabao Cup, has scored three goals and assisted a further three, leading StatmanDave to laud his ‘relentless’ efforts.

Ahead of Ruben Amorim’s impending arrival in the international break, Garnacho spoke with United Review to discuss Ten Hag’s exit, as well as his hopes for the remainder of the campaign.

“Of course, it’s a bit difficult at this moment, but the most important thing is to keep going,” he began, as relayed by The Mirror.

“The season has only just started, and we need to try and improve as a team to win every game and make our fans proud. Hopefully, we will improve over the next few months to have a great season and to win a trophy.”
