Real Sociedad captain Mikel Oyarzabal has eased fitness fears and is set to be available for the 18 April Copa del Rey final against Atlético Madrid in Sevilla.
According to AS, head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo said the forward had minor hamstring discomfort this week, so they chose not to risk him in training or against Deportivo Alavés. He added that, had the fixture demanded it, Oyarzabal would have played, and that he will be there for the final.
He underwent medical tests on Thursday, then stayed on the bench as a precaution during Saturday’s derby at Anoeta.
Matarazzo stressed there is no injury, with all tests returning positive results, and that the decision was purely precautionary.
The approach is designed to ensure the club’s captain, who scored the decisive goal against Athletic to deliver the 2021 Copa, arrives in peak condition for La Cartuja.
