Remember the last players to wear Corinthians’ number 5 shirt

One of the most "significant" numbers in the history of Corinthians is the number 5, traditionally reserved for the "guard dogs" of the midfield, players who embody grit, dedication, and leadership in the eyes of the faithful fans. In the last decade, Timão has had a series of midfielders who made their mark wearing the black and white mantle. Based on this tradition, the Central do Timão compiled an overview of the main players who wore the number 5 jersey in recent years.

Ralf (2010-2015/2018-2019)

Ralf is a name that strongly resonates among Corinthians fans when it comes to the number 5 jersey. His significant presence with this number over several years made him an emblematic figure for the club.

Additionally, Ralf had a second stint at Corinthians between 2018 and 2019, but this time wearing the number 15 jersey. Throughout his career, he won eight titles, being a starter on all occasions: Paulistão (2013, 2018, and 2019), Brasileirão (2011 and 2015), Libertadores (2012), Club World Cup (2012), and Recopa (2013).

Ralf's legacy goes beyond titles, as his dedication and leadership on the field also contributed to building a successful history. Whether with the number 5 or 15, Ralf left a mark on Corinthians, being remembered not only for the trophies he helped win but also for his importance as a midfield reference and for the affection of the fans who recognize his commitment in every match.

Willians (2016)

The beginning of the year marked the absence of a player with the number 5 jersey in the squad after Ralf's departure. For the Libertadores and Brasileirão, the responsibility of wearing this number fell on Willians, who had a rather controversial stint at the club.

His journey included a swap with Marciel, a homegrown midfielder, and culminated in his dismissal before the end of the contract, following a disagreement with a fan who caught him wearing green shorts at the training center.

Gabriel (2017-2021)

Gabriel joined Corinthians at the start of the season, coming from Palmeiras, and gradually earned his place in the team until becoming an undisputed starter under coach Fábio Carille. During his time at the club, he participated in 238 games, scored eight goals, and contributed to winning four titles: Paulistão (2017, 2018, and 2019) and Brasileirão (2017).

In early 2022, the midfielder terminated his contract with Corinthians and signed for free with Internacional. It's worth noting that Timão retained a percentage of the player's economic rights.

Maycon (2022)

The penultimate number 5 on the list is the current team midfielder, Maycon, who returned to Corinthians in April 2022 from Shakhtar Donetsk, Ukraine, on a loan valid until the end of that year.

After the end of the last season, the midfielder had his loan renewed with Timão and experienced a 2023 of ups and downs, already eyeing the number 7 jersey. In 2024, the midfielder had a promising start, managing to be a starter in the team then led by António Oliveira, but got injured and was out for the entire year.

Fausto Vera (2023)

The Argentine arrived at Corinthians in July 2022 wearing the number 33, as Maycon, as mentioned, was using the number 5 jersey. With a good first semester at Alvinegro Paulista, Fausto was considered by many to be the best in the squad in his position, winning over the Corinthians fans.

In 2023, with the number 5 jersey, the year was challenging. Early in the season, Fausto dealt with various injuries and became a reserve under the coaches who passed through the club. In the last match of the year, the midfielder scored his first goal for Timão, with a beautiful shot from outside the area. From the second half of 2024, after failing to establish himself further at the Parque São Jorge club, he left Alvinegro for Atlético-MG.

André Ramalho (2024-currently)

André Ramalho joined Corinthians on July 16, 2024, and took over the number 5 jersey of the People's Team after Fausto Vera's departure. Since then, the defender has become one of the pillars of the defensive system of the team led by Dorival Júnior. Since his arrival, the defender has scored one goal and one assist, winning a Paulista title and the Copa do Brasil.
