Former Corinthians goalkeeper Renan Soares says he has no regrets over his brief spell, despite playing only three official games. "It was a dream for me to wear the Corinthians shirt," he said, speaking to ge.globo.
Corinthians paid R$ 5 million to sign the 20-year-old from Avaí in 2011, when he was viewed as one of the country’s leading goalkeeping prospects after Brazil call-ups and standout displays in Santa Catarina.
He debuted on 24 July 2011 with Corinthians unbeaten in 10 league matches, nine wins and one draw. In round 11 against Cruzeiro he replaced Julio Cesar, who had fractured a finger in the previous game.
At a packed Pacaembu with 34,462 watching, Wallyson beat him from near halfway for a 1-0 Cruzeiro win. He featured only twice more in official matches for Corinthians.
His final outing came in a friendly on 15 September 2011, a 2-0 win over Grêmio Osasco. He then embarked on loans to Vitória, Estoril, Guarani, Botafogo-SP, Bragantino, Caxias and Tigres do Brasil, before retiring in 2016.
"My only regrets are not coming on the day my grandmother, who raised me, passed away, and not being there to see my son born." "Beyond that, I do not regret anything. Only gratitude for football." Now 35, he runs a building firm in Governador Celso Ramos and ended his career with 124 matches and the 2011 Brazilian crown.
