Renato Gaúcho has been dismissed by Vasco after 107 days in charge, becoming the fifth head coach removed under Pedrinho’s stewardship. His sacking ends his third spell at the club.
Globo.com reports that the decision came on Thursday night, four days before the squad were due to return after the World Cup pause. Pedrinho took over football operations in May 2024 after a court suspended 777’s contract to run the club’s SAF, and the average tenure since has been 142 days.
Álvaro Pacheco was hired by 777 and was already in place when Pedrinho arrived. His stint proved disastrous, opening with a 6-1 defeat to Flamengo, then three further negative results, and he was sacked after 30 days.
Rafael Paiva stepped up as interim, impressed, and was made permanent. He guided Vasco away from the relegation fight, but three straight defeats late in the Brasileirão led to his dismissal after 156 days.
Fábio Carille took charge in December 2024 with an eye on the following season. Performances were mixed and he was let go in April after a defeat to Cruzeiro in round six of the Brasileirão, a 129-day reign.
Fernando Diniz, a favourite of Pedrinho, succeeded him. Vasco laboured in the league but reached the Copa do Brasil final. Despite a home defeat to Corinthians, the board kept faith into the new season, but poor results in the Carioca and early Brasileiro rounds brought a February exit after 289 days.
