Renato Paiva, the former Benfica B coach, is returning to Mexico to take charge of Santos Laguna. Record writes that the 56-year-old will sign a two-season contract running to 2028.
Paiva has already worked in Liga MX with Club León and Toluca. Santos Laguna are turning to his international experience after finishing the Clausura bottom of the table.
Before this move, he also led Bahia, Botafogo, Fortaleza and Independiente del Valle, strengthening his reputation abroad. His profile rose at Benfica thanks to years of work at Seixal.
He joined the Lisbon club in 2004/05 and stayed for about 16 seasons. Paiva coached age groups from under-10 to under-19, winning the under-17 national title in 2017/18.
Promoted to Benfica B in January 2019, he remained until December 2020 before pursuing a senior role abroad. He now looks to make Santos Laguna competitive again.
