Slegers’ side will be looking to defend the trophy that they won back in May.

Arsenal also have aspirations of winning the Women’s Super League (WSL) title, and this weekend brings them their biggest challenge to date in the league, with a trip to Manchester United.

The draw provided headline matches with Bayern Munich, Lyon and Real Madrid. Arsenal will also face Benfica, FC Twente and OH Leuven.

Slegers in response to the draw said: “It’s three teams again that we just played against last season in the Champions League. We’re very excited of course. It’s a new format, so you play against six different opponents.

“The draw is there, now we know who we’re going to play against and we’re going to prepare for it. They’re scheduling at the moment, so we’ll see what the first game is.”

Arsenal met Bayern Munich in the group stage of last season’s competition, where they won 3-2 at home and lost 5-2 away.

The Gunners then beat Real Madrid in the quarter-finals and Lyon in the semi-finals, before defeating Barcelona to lift the trophy in May.

What Slegers said ahead of Arsenal vs Manchester United?

Renee Slegers spoke about the Women’s Champions League draw during her pre-match press conference before they play Manchester United on Sunday.

United and Arsenal are top of the WSL table after two games, and at least one of their 100 per cent records will come to an end at Leigh Sports Village this weekend.

Slegers said: “They of course had to come back from 1-0 down against Brann and then they came back to England, won against London City Lionesses and they turned it around yesterday. So I guess they are positive, there’s positive vibes.

“But that’s them, that’s their camp, so I don’t know exactly what’s going on there. For us, it’s focusing on ourselves and trying to prepare as well as possible with all the detail and all the things we think we can expect on Sunday, so we control as many things as possible on Sunday.”

Slegers also confirmed that it looks ‘positive’ for Chloe Kelly to be available for the game after suffering a minor knock.
