Brice Samba delivered a commanding return as Rennes beat PSG 3-1 in Ligue 1, while Désiré Doué’s wastefulness typified the visitors’ blunt edge.

According to L'Équipe, France’s third-choice goalkeeper denied Doué one-on-one in the 12th minute and repelled Ousmane Dembélé from range on 32. Before that, Lepaul struck the post in the sixth minute and Matvei Safonov saved from Adrien Truffert Merlin on 31. Al-Tamari then opened the scoring on 34, released by Nagida before outmanoeuvring Pacho and finishing left-footed.

After the break Nordin missed a fine chance on 47. Lepaul made it 2-0 with a fierce header from Szymanski’s corner on 69, with Warren Zaïre-Emery losing him, and João Neves went off injured for Dro Fernandez on 70. Dembélé cut the deficit with a header on 72.

Barcola had replaced Doué on 60 and later drew a crucial deflection from Brassier on 79. Gonçalo Ramos came on for PSG on 74 but Samba saved his effort on 77, before Embolo sealed it on 81 from a Blas pass, bundling in off his stomach. Samba thwarted Barcola again in stoppage time.

Interim coach S. Tambouret abandoned a back three for a 4-2-3-1 despite the absences of Jacquet and Ait Boudlal, and Rennes were solid, brave in their build-up and incisive with their substitutions.

Standout ratings went to Samba, Brassier and Al-Tamari. For PSG, Pacho struggled, Nuno Mendes shone going forward but suffered defensively, Ilya Zabarnyi’s early second-half slip almost gifted Nordin, Zaïre-Emery erred on the first two goals, and Safonov stayed too deep on the later strikes.
