Stade Rennais are interested in bringing Olympique de Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd (30) back to the club, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
The Morocco international spent two seasons at Rennes between 2020 and 2022, making 66 appearances before joining West Ham United. He returned to Ligue 1 last summer when Marseille signed him following a loan spell at Real Sociedad.
However, Aguerd’s future at the Vélodrome is already uncertain as OM attempt to raise funds and comply with financial restrictions imposed by the DNCG.
The 30-year-old reportedly has a clause in his Marseille contract allowing him to leave for €15m, payable in a single instalment, before the end of Friday, 31 July. Once that deadline has passed, OM will be free to demand a higher fee for the centre-back, whose contract runs until 2030.
Rennes are understood to be particularly interested in re-signing Aguerd, although Foot Mercato adds that the deal remains complicated at this stage.GFFN | George Boxall
