Sunderland face a major summer decision over striker Eliezer Mayenda after fresh European interest. Foot Mercato reports that Stade Rennais are pushing to land the 21-year-old as they look to bolster their attack.
The Ligue one club have set their sights on Mayenda, and a move could hand the forward a route back to French football. The development arrives amid uncertainty over his future at the Stadium of Light.
Mayenda is understood to want to leave this summer in search of regular game time, having seen starts limited last season. He is contracted to Sunderland until 2030, which leaves the club in a strong negotiating position.
The striker joined from Sochaux in 2023 and played a key role in promotion, scoring the equaliser in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley. He then scored on his Premier League debut in the opening-day win over West Ham United, before his involvement reduced as the campaign wore on.
Any decision will hinge on valuation, squad planning and the Black Cats’ attacking options for the new season. Given his age, contract length and potential, Sunderland retain significant control, though the situation now appears one to watch.
