Roma continues its Champions League run thanks to two Dutchmen: Malen and Rensch.
The former Ajax full-back has become an unexpected star at the Tardini: scoring the momentary equalizer and a last-gasp penalty awarded to his compatriot, who scored his 13th Serie A goal after just 16 games.
The 2003-born full-back landed in the capital almost a year and a half ago for €5 million and couldn’t hold back the tears when he signed.
This season hasn’t seen him become a regular starter for Gasperini, who nevertheless has always kept him in mind, as was the case in the first leg of the derby, which ended 0-1 thanks to a goal from the usual Pellegrini.
Rensch has been deployed on both flanks this season: a versatile player for Gian Piero Gasperini. The Dutch winger has alternated between good performances and decisive plays, like at the Tardini, and gross errors. In short, ups and downs.
As Corriere dello Sport reports, Rensch expects to be confirmed in next season’s squad and hopes to take over from Celik ahead of the derby against Lazio.
After the Parma match, the 2003-born player already immersed himself in the derby, calling it “the most important match.” And he hopes to be a key player again.
