Liverpool Transfer News: Defender Could Join Mohamed Salah in Saudi Pro League Move

The future of Mohamed Salah has been one of the major talking points at Liverpool over the past couple of years, despite signing a new contract just last year.

Off the back of a disappointing season, with just ten goals and nine assists across all competitions, the 33-year-old is expected to leave the club this summer.

As it stands, a move to the Saudi Pro League is the most likely outcome with a mega-money move still expected.

However, Salah might not be the only Liverpool star tempted by a move to Saudi…

Saudi Clubs Considering Ibrahima Konate Move

According to a report from Sports Boom, Saudi clubs could join the race to sign Ibrahima Konate this summer.

The French defender’s current deal is set to expire in June, when he would be available to leave on a free transfer.

“Saudi football chiefs will look to tempt Ibrahima Konate to the Kingdom this summer if Real Madrid and Internazionale decide against firming-up their interest in the Liverpool centre-half,” Sports Boom revealed.

“Despite holding several rounds of talks with Anfield’s hierarchy since the beginning of the season, Konate’s representatives are seemingly no closer to reaching agreement about extending their client’s stay on Merseyside,” they continued.

Looking Ahead

Konate is another name on a long list of players who have struggled at Liverpool this season. But despite his sub-par performances, the Reds are still keen to tie him down to a new deal.

That’s even despite agreeing a deal worth in the region of £60m to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet – who will arrive this summer.

Liverpool are facing another summer of uncertainty with the likes of Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa all potentially heading towards the exit.

Therefore, I’m sure they will be keen to avoid seeing Konate join that long list of potential exits.

Should the Frenchman opt to explore his options, it’s hard to see him considering a move to the Saudi Pro League. At 26 years old, he should be in the prime of his career and competing in Europe’s elite competitions alongside the world’s best.

Hopefully we will see him do so in a Liverpool shirt. But I wouldn’t completely rule out a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
