Arsenal’s recruitment model continues to blend patience with opportunism, and the latest reporting from Italy has placed another emerging European talent firmly on their radar. According to TeamTalk, citing Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are described as “crazy” about signing AC Milan’s 19 year old left back Davide Bartesaghi, a player whose rise this season has not gone unnoticed across the Premier League.
This interest fits a familiar pattern. Arsenal have invested heavily in defenders who influence both boxes, and their title push, built on structure, aerial dominance and set pieces, has validated that strategy. While some have mocked that approach, its effectiveness is difficult to dispute.
Bartesaghi’s appeal is multifaceted. Standing at 6ft 5in, he offers a rare physical profile for a modern full back, particularly one comfortable operating at left wing back. TeamTalk report that he has “become a mainstay in the team” this season, a significant development for a teenager at a club like Milan.

His attacking contribution is not theoretical either. Bartesaghi scored twice in Milan’s 2-2 draw with Sassuolo, with both goals described as “clinical low drives with his left foot”. That blend of height, timing and composure aligns neatly with Arsenal’s emphasis on maximising set pieces and secondary scoring threats.
The report also highlights that “it’s especially Arsenal who are making the most noise behind the scenes”, with Milan increasingly aware of the financial imbalance between Serie A clubs and England’s elite.
One quote from the report captures the broader tension facing Italian clubs: “If a player they like pops up on the radar, an offer is made, despite the countless, and understandable, financial worries Italian clubs have when it comes to incoming transfers.” That context matters. Milan are not eager sellers, but they are realistic about the pressure applied when Premier League clubs circle.
Bartesaghi signed a new deal in May, committing his future to Milan until 2030. As a homegrown player who has only recently established himself, the suggestion is that he has “no great inclination to leave any time soon”.
From Arsenal’s perspective, timing is everything. The squad already includes Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis Skelly as left back options, with Piero Hincapie capable of covering the role. A move now would likely leave Bartesaghi as a depth option, something that makes little sense for a player developing so rapidly.
Equally, delay carries risk. If Bartesaghi’s trajectory continues, so too will his valuation. Arsenal’s challenge is deciding whether to act early or trust that patience will not price them out later.
From an Arsenal supporter’s perspective, this report sparks both excitement and caution. Bartesaghi clearly looks like a player tailored for the Premier League, physically dominant, tactically flexible and already comfortable in high pressure environments. His brace against Sassuolo shows confidence, not just potential.
That said, the current squad balance matters. Arsenal have invested heavily in youth pathways and positional competition, and adding another young left back now could block development rather than enhance it. The club’s recent success has come from clarity of roles and managed progression, not stockpiling talent.
There is also something appealing about allowing a player like Bartesaghi to mature outside the Premier League spotlight. Another season or two at Milan, refining his defensive positioning and consistency, could make him a more complete option when Arsenal genuinely need him.
The real concern is price escalation. Arsenal fans have seen targets slip away before due to hesitation. If the recruitment team truly believe Bartesaghi can become elite, there may be a case for acting decisively, even if that means a structured deal with a delayed arrival.
For now, this feels like intelligent monitoring rather than imminent movement. Arsenal watching closely, Milan wary, and a young defender with time firmly on his side.
